This dissertation discussed issues related to the study of nurses' altruism andbegins with the Theory of Altruistic Caring among older adults. The study aimed to develop a theory on nurses' altruism towardthe care of older adults. It seek to determine a deeper understanding of altruistic caring and selfless concern for the well-being of older adults in two elderly homes in Zamboanga City. Altruism is a helping behavior without expecting anything in return. An axiomatic deductive approach to theory development was utilized in this study to create a theory that would explain the phenomenon of nursing altruism. The use of axioms was utilized as set of assumptions that were deduced to propositions to establish theoretical structure. There were three (3) propositions that emerged in this study namely; (1) Altruistic caring is manifested in different forms. (2) Altruism is affected by experiences of nurses/caregivers and (3)Altruism varies according to motivations of nurses. Hence, the generation of this Theory of Altruistic Caring.
